MY TARGET

     At the end of this activity, you will be informed on the principles of authentic assessment and its usefulness in the classroom.

MY TASK:

Authentic assessment is an alternative way of assessing students’ learning. To be able to use it, you must have a deep understanding of it. To help you reach your goal to the following task:

1.   Visit a classroom and interview a teacher on his/her experiences in using authentic assessment.

2.    Describe how the teacher uses the authentic assessment.

3.    Write a reflective journal on the activity.

MY INTERVIEW NOTES

•Why authentic assessment is very important tools in assessing a student?      > In assessing student’s ability, knowledge, and skills inside the classroom, authentic assessment is very important because it focuses to the whole performance of every learner. • Is there any process to be follow?      > In laboratory works or experiment that can be applied in real-world setting, students must be able to follow a particular process in order for them to come up with a good product. • How was authentic assessment used?      > We used authentic assessment including rubrics and score cards to assess learners. It is logically used to find out how well we have attained our lesson objective.

ANALYSIS:

1. What is authentic assessment?

        > Authentic assessment is a process on how teachers assessed their students based on their performances inside the classroom. It is designed for students to build their practical thinking that they apply in real-life situations.

2. How was authentic assessment used? Was it used to measure learning through the product?

        > Authentic assessment is designed and used by the teacher in experimentation's and research works, wherein she uses a rubrics or score cards in order to assess her learners easily.

        > In Science, product is not only the basis to measure learning because it is inter-connected to the materials and technique used in the given activity, and without this two we can’t produce a good product. 

What are your insights and feelings about the use of authentic assessment?

          > In authentic assessment the teacher stands as a facilitator. Thus, they let students become creative, imaginative and exploration that they can be used in their future.

 Describe how the teacher used authentic assessment.

          > The teacher used the authentic assessment in a proper and fair manner. It is valid assessment tools because it matches with her lesson objective.

How did you feel about the teacher’s experience in the use of authentic assessment?

          >I feel comfortable because the teacher’s experience in the use of authentic assessment is in high. As a future educator I am very impressed to see the great result of using this assessment tools and the great impact of it to the learners.

What could be the gains of the students and teachers in using authentic assessment?

          > By the help of authentic assessment students gained their self-esteem and boosted their creativity and critical thinking in performing a task. Teachers stands only as a facilitator and it is easier for them because the only thing they do is to let their students learn independently and experienced a various task that applied in real-life setting.

Which part of the teacher’s use of authentic assessment do you feel like improving or revising?

        > In their research activity, student’s portfolio is improving. It is from the basic to complex formation, to help students achieved their product by using their critical and practical thinking.

1. Do you think the teacher’s learning objectives was appropriately assessed by your test items?

     -Yes, because my test items that I made integrate objectives in the cognitive, psycho motor and affective domains. It is appropriately assessed because it dwells on knowledge, skills and values that help each student to contribute t the formation of their thinking skills who will have all the skills and experience to take advantage of the unlearned.

2. Why do you have to study the teacher’s learning objectives prior to developing an assessment tool?

        -For me, to find out what is difficult for us to attain and determine whether a lesson objective is in the cognitive, psycho motor and affective.

      Write your personal reflection of thoughts and feelings regarding Peace Concept on Focus. Share your reflection with your FS teacher and classmates.

       -Do you think teaching-and-learning process takes place without using the Peace Concept on Focus? What do you think the importance of it in teaching learning objectives? In other words, a lesson is worthless without Peace concept on Focus because students mind will be confuse in different topics that the teacher teaches from them. It’s like planting a seed in a muddy soil, it’s useless because when they absorb or expose to sunlight the soil will become hard and the seed will no longer grow up.

       In classroom, when teacher does not focus herself/himself in teaching one topic per session, his/her students will not be able to gain knowledge otherwise they built a conflict and the attention of the class will be divided.

       As a future educator I want to become effective teacher. I will use the SMARTER in making my lesson objectives because it quite easy to me to end out at the end of the lesson if I attained my objectives or not.

1.PAPER WORKS (RESEARCH ACTIVITIES)	-An assessment that the teacher gives to their students to be able that they learners understand better the lesson.
2.PAPER AND PENCIL	-The most common use for assessment. -It assess the students if they understand the lesson that the teacher discussed.
3. GROUP STUDY	-It is used to test the students performance and behaviors inside the class. -The teacher used it to test the unity of the group in the given task.

1. CLASS DISCUSSION	-The teacher is flexible. -It discusses the lesson based on the level of understanding of their learners.
2.PAPER AND PENCIL            (QUIZ)	-They give quizzes to re freshen-up the minds of their students in the lesson. -It is done after or before instruction.

1. REPORTING	-A task given to the students to develop their self-esteem in-front of their classmates and teacher.
2. CLASS RECITATION	-   An assessment that the teacher can be able to determine whether the students are listening and at the same time learning. -The teacher gives to their students the venue to interact and participate in the class discussion.

4.       PERFORMANCE TEST	- An actual assessment, to know how far the students have achieved about the subject matter.

  Yes, the teachers are very effective and flexible in using their assessment methods because all the assessment methods that they used is valid and reliable that match with their lesson objectives.

         

 2. Do you think the expected students learning behaviors indicated in the objectives were properly and appropriately assessed through those assessment methods?

                

Yes, by the help of all this assessment tools used by the teacher inside the class,students are made to understand that the purpose of assessment is to check on learning.it measures only simple recall and comprehension of the students inside the class.

REFLECTION:

          

As a future educator someday,the effectiveness of all this different assessment tools that I learned in our subject FIELD STUDY 5 will helps me lot in my chosen career. I know that teaching cycle is not complete without the assessment of learning.
